Ever wondered what it takes to put together a painted seascape of your favourite beach, including your family or fur babies splashing around in the shallows? Would you like to pick up some practical advice for your own oil painting practice or try your hand at an oil painting before committing to the medium?
Join Megan McInerney for 2 x 4hr weekend workshops where you will be guided through Megan’s signature process for creating oil paintings of long summer days at the beach.
In this series you will:
Day 1: (4hrs) – Create the Background
- Gain an overview of the process for creating an oil painting
- Understand how to work with different tools
- Mix your own colour palettes
- Block in a background
- Learn techniques including; blending, finger painting, wet on wet, sgraffito, knife painting
Day 2: (4hrs) – Insert your figure – come to class with a figure (family, friend or fur baby) you’d like to insert into your scene and turn your seascape into a personalised memory.
- Add in your figure
- Learn how to create reflections
- Adding in layers to your underpainted background
- Tips for finishing your piece
You’ll walk away with:
- An understanding of the medium compared to other types of paints
- Practical technical tips on how to utilise the versatility of oil paint
- An understanding of Megan’s unique artistic process
- Your very own oil painting for your home!
Materials supplied
- 40x30cm canvas
- All paints and tools (brushes, pallet knives, pallets, thinning mediums) for use at event only
- Reference images for inspiration
- Pen/Paper for taking notes
- Tea/coffee - and Morning tea provided
BYO Reference pictures 1) of your favourite beach 2) of your family, friend or fur baby, Apron or old clothes you don’t mind getting paint on. and BYO lunch if required.
